New exhibitions shine spotlight on vintage toys and Sister City relationship
Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum (GRAGM) is launching two exhibitions from tomorrow that are sure to pique the interest of children and their parents.
Toys from Yesteryear and Saiki City Children’s Art 2021 will launch on Friday 3 December and be on display until 22 January 2022. Gladstone Region Councillor Desley O’Grady said Toys from Yesteryear is an exhibition for everyone.
“This exhibition will provide a special place for children and a nostalgic link to the past for adults,” Councillor O’Grady said.
“People from all generations will be able to return to their childhood in this exhibition as it explores the passage of time through family generations and the toys they played with.
“Some of these toys are from GRAGM’s community collection, while others are treasured items loaned by local families.
“These precious toys have been adored by many generations and are sure to delight all those who visit.”
Meanwhile, the Saiki City Children’s Art 2021 exhibition will allow patrons to take a glimpse into the daily lives of children in Saiki City, Japan through their colourful artworks.
Cr O’Grady said this annual exhibition is part of the Gladstone Saiki Sister City cultural exchange program.
“This exhibition presents 30 artworks created by children between seven and 15 years old from our Sister City in Japan during 2020 and 2021,” she said.
“2021 marks the 25th anniversary of the signing of declaration of friendship between Gladstone and Saiki City and we’re proud to showcase these colourful artworks to inspire a younger generation of local artists here in the Gladstone Region.”
GRAGM visitors can also view the Rio Tinto and QAL Martin Hanson Memorial Art Awards exhibition, on display until 29 January 2022.
