Landmarks set for illumination with exciting addition to Luminous
The award-winning Luminous light and art spectacular is fast approaching and several landmarks within Gladstone’s CBD will also light up to celebrate this highly anticipated event.
In addition to the main Luminous festivities taking place at Gladstone’s Tondoon Botanic Gardens, on 16-17 July from 5.30pm-9pm, a specially designed Heritage Trail will also be activated along Goondoon Street to mark the occasion.
The Luminous Heritage Trail will light up buildings such as the Old Gladstone Post Office, Kullaroo House, Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre and the Gladstone Library.
Gladstone Region Councillor Rick Hansen said the Luminous Heritage Trail would showcase both the old and the new along Goondoon Street.
“The Heritage Trail will run from Thursday 15 July to Saturday 17 July between 5.30pm-9pm, allowing the community to take themselves or their family on a walk down Goondoon Street to see some special buildings that will be lit up to celebrate Luminous,” Councillor Hansen said.
Cr Hansen said the Luminous Heritage Trail is free to attend and will also be accompanied by a launch event, Luminous – Ignite the Heritage, in the Entertainment Precinct along Goondoon Street between Roseberry and Yarroon Streets.
“The Luminous – Ignite the Heritage launch event takes place from 4pm on Thursday 15 July and will feature market stalls, food vendors and live entertainment, bringing an ‘Eat Street’ style event with a difference to the heart of Gladstone’s city centre,” he said.
“While the festivities taking place along Goondoon Street will provide a unique point of difference to Luminous this year, the main event will still take place at Tondoon Botanic Gardens.
“The Gardens will be packed with impressive light displays, illuminated art, live music, roving entertainment, workshops, children’s activities, a spectacular water activation on Lake Tondoon and much more.
“Both events are family friendly with something on offer for everyone.”
