Students invited to paint what makes Australia great
As part of 2021 Australia Day celebrations, Gladstone Regional Council is calling for entries in the Celebrate Australia Primary School Art Competition.
Gladstone Region Deputy Mayor Kahn Goodluck said the competition, which will help us celebrate ‘who and what makes Australia great’, is open now to all primary school aged students.
“I encourage students to think about what aspects of our Australian lifestyle are important to them and use this as inspiration for their artwork,” Councillor Goodluck said.
To enter, students simply draw, paint or collage an aspect of Australia they believe is iconic on A4 paper and submit it with a completed entry form, available from Council’s offices, venues and libraries.
There are two sections of entry: Section One - Prep to Year 2 and Section Two - Year 3 to Year 6.
Entries close 4pm, Friday 18 December and should be delivered to the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum (GRAGM), corner Goondoon and Bramston Streets, Gladstone.
GRAGM Manager and Curator Cameron Curd will judge the artworks with great prizes to be awarded.
Winners will be printed as 2021 Gladstone Regional Council Australia Day commemorative postcards and two winning artists will receive a Gladstone Cinemas family pass for two adults and two children.
The successful artists will be announced during Council’s Australia Day celebrations on Tuesday, 26 January 2021, at Tannum Sands’ Millennium Esplanade.
Local artist Jenny Fournier will present a free virtual workshop online on Friday 11 December to help students with their entries.
