Planning focuses on maintaining region’s essential services
Gladstone Regional Council has implemented its Business Continuity Plan to ensure essential services can continue during the COVID-19 health emergency.
These critical services include water, waste, sewerage and cemeteries.
Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said Council has a comprehensive contingency plan to deliver essential services to the region and have put in place plans to keep essential teams safe whilst doing so.
“While the message is clear that we should stay at home unless it’s essential to leave, we have employees at Council that you will see out and about that are crucial in ensuring our essential services are maintained for our community,” Councillor Burnett said.
“We have put in place safety measures for our people which include roster changes, working at different localities, practising good hygiene, physical distancing, a limit of persons in Council vehicles and undertaking risk assessments to maintain personal and public safety during this health emergency.
“There are also teams that are working both remotely and in some cases at our Council buildings to support the continued delivery of our water, sewerage, waste and cemetery functions.”
As per the Queensland and Australian Government advice, people should continue to stay home and only leave for essentials such as food, urgent medical appointments or to exercise in small groups of two.
“If you come in contact with our essential workers, I ask you to help keep our employees safe by sticking to the social distance rules, keep conversations with team members short, and maintaining good hygiene,” Cr Burnett added.
“This will greatly assist our staff to provide those basic services we need to keep our community running comfortably and safely for everyone.”
Residents are also reminded that most services Council provides can be accessed online or by calling our Customer Solutions Team on 4970 0700 for further assistance.
