Disability Action Week celebrates Queenslanders with a disability and the contributions they make within our families, communities, workplaces and to our state’s economy. 24 Nov - 01 Dec 2024
Queensland will celebrate Disability Action Week 2024 from 24 November to 1 December 2024.
Each year Disability Action Week acknowledges the important and vital roles people living with disability play in our communities, families, and workplaces. It’s a time to celebrate achievements and the outlets that support diverse connections and access needs.
This year’s theme is ‘Accessible communication: connect, include and empower’.
Communication isn’t one-size-fits-all and should be adaptable to diverse community needs. Accessible communication ensures that everyone can easily access and understand information regardless of their abilities or preferences. Even small changes can remove barriers and empower individuals to achieve their goals.
In 2024 Council endorsed the Gladstone Regional Council Access and Inclusion Action Plan 2024-27, a series of action items that form a three-year roadmap towards our goal of improving accessibility and inclusivity. It is an organisation-wide plan designed to benefit the community. We commit to making accessibility and inclusion a priority in everything we do.
Our vision is a thriving and inclusive community where diversity is celebrated, and all individuals have equal access to opportunities and resources. Let’s highlight our progress, while acknowledging what needs doing to make our community more accessible and inclusive.
