YOUTH SUPPORT
The Discovery Coast Youth Support Service (DCYS) is focused on providing support services to vulnerable young people and strengthening their relationships with family and support networks.
The service assists young people to connect with family and community, and to engage in education, training and employment pathways, maintain safe housing and build their skills to maintain their own wellbeing.
Who is the service for?
Young people who reside in the Discovery Coast are, aged between 12 to 18 years of age who are at risk of:
• Disconnecting from their family/community or support networks
• Disengaging from school, training and/or employment
• Harm, including self-harm
• Homelessness
DCYS provides an essential early intervention response and practical assistance to young people who present with risk factors that may impact their wellbeing and result in harm, homelessness and/or negative health outcomes
How do I access the service?
• Young people can access the service through a range of options:
• Centre-based support - Discovery Coast Community Health Service offices
• Outreach - Home. school and community
• Virtual - Phone, SMS and Facebook messenger options available
COMMUNITY SUPPORT
The Community Support Service works together with residents and community groups to foster and strengthen community capacity.
The service works within the Discovery Coast are to develop skills and build competencies in the following area:
• Personal & social development
• Living skills development
• Education & training
• Community capacity development
The service undertakes a diverse range of community projects, community events, activities and resources to address local issues and to celebrate the local community's strengths.
