CQ Home Assist Secure is a program jointly funded by State and Federal Governments, and aims to remove some of the practical housing related difficulties experienced by older people and people with disabilities who wish to remain living in their own home.
In Central Queensland the program is delivered by Rockhampton Regional Council into the five Local Government areas of Central Queensland including Livingstone, Rockhampton, Gladstone, Central Highlands and Banana Shires. A central office is located in Rockhampton. Currently the program has over 10,000 clients utilising the service. The services that CQ Home Assist Secure provides are free information and referrals along with subsidised assistance to eligible clients. Information and referral is available about home maintenance, repairs, minor modifications and home security. Staff can also refer and assist, if necessary, with employing tradespeople, contracting experts, or planning future work. Subsidised assistance gives support to people who are unable to obtain alternative assistance with minor home maintenance, repairs, modifications and security which relate to their health, safety and security. To be eligible for free information and referral, you must be a home owner or live in rental housing and be 60 years and over or of any age with a disability. In addition to the above, to receive subsidised assistance for work in your home, you must hold a current Commonwealth Government pensioner concession card or deemed eligible through My Aged Care assessment and unable to make use of alternative forms of assistance, such as Veterans Affairs, family or friends. CQ Home Assist Secure does not undertake maintenance or repairs that are considered to be the responsibility of the landlord (lessor) under the Residential Tenancies Act.
