BreastScreen Queensland has been providing Queensland women with quality breast cancer screening services for over 20 years. We are the only nationally accredited breast cancer screening provider in Queensland offering free screening and assessment to eligible women, using the latest digital mammography technology. The aim of the BreastScreen Queensland program is to reduce the impact of a breast cancer diagnosis and ensure you have the best outcome possible through early detection. We provide a complete service, up to and including a breast cancer diagnosis or referral for open biopsy. Our goal is to screen 70 per cent of Queensland women in our target age group 50 - 74 every two years, as they are the group most at risk of breast cancer. BreastScreen Queensland began small in 1991 with a vision to build a network covering all corners of the State. Later, we introduced a mobile service to provide quality screening to women in even remote areas of Queensland. Over the years we have screened more than 200,000 women, performed more than 2.9 million mammograms and detected more than 13,000 cancers. Today, our network includes 11 screening and assessment centres, 23 satellite screening centres (Gladstone is one) and 9 mobile vans covering more than 200 locations across the State. However, our commitment to quality health care has remained unchanged. Twenty years on, our breast cancer screening program strives to continuously improve services provided to the women of Queensland.
