The Quota Club of Gladstone Inc. has been serving the local Gladstone and worldwide communities since the 2nd of September 1967.Our Club is currently made up of 17 members, 3 Members at Large and 3 Honorary members. Our annual membership fee is $50.
We meet twice a month: on the 2nd Monday of each month we have a Business Meeting at the Philip Street Communities and Families Precinct between 6.30-8.30pm to plan upcoming projects and we finish with supper and a chat. The 4th Monday of the month is a social get together for members to enjoy themselves. Generally we go out for dinner, the theatre, a show or local event. We change the day/date of this get together if necessary.
Our fundraising events in support of local charities are:
Hosting 3 Cent Sales - Mother's Day in May, Father’s Day in September, and Christmas in December. We run raffles at the West Primary School Family Fun night in September and also hold a Fashion Parade in October. All funds raised by the Club are spent to assist our local community.
Our Community Service projects are:
- PENCILS PLUS PROJECT: we fill backpacks with essentials such as a lunch box, drink bottle, pencil case, lead pencils, ruler, rubber, pencil sharpener, 12 coloured pencils, glue stick, scissors, sunscreen, carry bag and a key tag. These backpacks are delivered to Gladstone primary and some high schools to help underprivileged children to start school. We are in our fifth year with this Project and deliver over 160 backpacks into 15+ local schools in time for kids to start the school year with the essentials they need.
- SALVATION ARMY: we donate funds that go towards providing a weekly breakfast/sausage sizzle for the homeless and people in need.
- CHILDREN’S SERVICES: we donate toys and clothes in support of children and young people in foster care.
- STEP UP STEP DOWN: we provide Toiletry Packs throughout the year for this mental health facility and a food hamper at Christmas.
Some other donations we provide throughout the year include (but are not limited to):
- EVENGLOW: to support a luncheon for the elderly
- ANGLICARE: Christmas hampers to support the Adopt a Family Campaign
- GUIDE DOGS: to support guide dogs for the blind and sight impaired
- CANCER COUNCIL: we make Breast cushions and donate to this cause.
We also support the Gladstone Harbour Festival by conducting a Window Dressing Competition with cash prizes for different categories. This is done to help bring some joy to the community and we invite retailers and businesses to get in the mood and dress up their shop/shop front in a Tropical Theme.
During the year we are often called upon to assist other community clubs and organizations by either providing donations or volunteering hands on support to their service projects in the community.
